Below are some questions you might be asking about us.

Who are you?

Ma Yoga for Pregnancy, Motherhood & Beyond is an ever-expanding, ever-changing community  – or kula in Sanskrit – of yoga teachers, moms, moms-to-be, birth educators and doulas, and of course partners, babies, and kids.  We are a local and world-wide yoga resource for pregnancy, motherhood & beyond. And more and more teachers are joining us by starting prenatal and postnatal classes in their own neighborhoods!

We feel that this powerful transition in women’s lives offers us so many opportunities to grow and learn, and in community we can share experiences, get help and guidance, and find support for becoming the mother we want to be.

Our teachers are all “Anusara®-interested” – inspired by the Universal Principles of Alignment, and grateful for the ability to use them to help moms-to-be get out of pain and into a feeling of ease in their bodies – no matter how big we get!

The syllable “ma” in Sanskrit refers to the highest Self, the great mother within our hearts where we can find unconditional love for ourselves and our children.  We have the opportunity to move into this place at any moment, but pregnancy is an amazingly potent time to step into our authenticity – and learn practices that will help us stay true to both what we know and what we feel.

Where are you?

We are a global online support community for moms and moms-to-be.  We connect by sharing tips, experiences, and birth stories, helping others see that beauty comes in all different forms.

Ma Yoga teachers offer classes locally in their home studios, office spaces and birth centers, primarily in the Los Angeles area.  We now offer classes in Beverly Hills, Sherman Oaks, Hancock Park, Riverside and Orange County.

We are expanding into other cities as more teachers are trained and looking for spaces  in which to teach.  If you are a midwife or doula with an office space or center and you’d like to offer yoga to your clients please let us know.  If you have space for about 6-8 mats and some quiet time during the day or in the evening, we’ll try to grow a kula at your place!

If you are a yogi interested in hosting a training at your local studio (you get the weekend free), please email jessica@mayoga.com.

What services do you offer?

1. Prenatal, postnatal, and kids yoga classes in home studios, rented spaces and other comfortable locations.

2. Prenatal Teacher Trainings at yoga studios in many cities throughout the west side of the US, as well as online Teacher Trainings twice a year.

4. Access to an ever-changing, ever-growing heart-filled community (kula) of moms, moms-to-be, yoga teachers and birth support people by becoming an online member, and in-person at various locations in Los Angeles and beyond.

Why shouldn’t I just keep doing regular yoga?

There’s no reason to stop going to regular yoga if you have a consistent practice.  But if you add prenatal yoga to your week, you will find many tips for how to adjust your practice to create space for your growing belly and baby; you’ll share experiences and get information from other moms-to-be; and you’ll make friends, so when you’re a new mom, you’ll have someone to call who actually wants to hear about how many times your baby pooped that day.

Really, it’s worth it.  Plus, once you become a mom, yoga changes.  No longer do you have the luxury of a long, quiet practice.  Nature gives us 10 months to prepare for this new reality – Prenatal Yoga helps us make the most of these 9 months so even as exhausted, stressed out new moms, we already know how to effectively and quickly access deep strength, as well as a feeling of sweet, unconditional love for ourselves and our baby.

If you want a Ma Yoga class in your neighborhood, just email us at Jessica@mayoga.com and we’ll try to set you up.  Often, there are already teachers well-trained in the Anusara principles in each city who are interested in offering prenatal yoga right nearby.

Jessica now offers trainings in Scottsdale, San Diego, Seattle, and San Francisco,. Let us know if you’d like to host a training at your studio – if you make it happen, you take the workshop for free.

How can I learn how to teach prenatal or postnatal yoga?

If you want to teach yoga to moms and moms-to-be, the first step is to take a training.  Pregnancy is an amazing context for Anusara yogis to deepen our understanding of the principles of alignment – and for those new to Anusara, to begin to explore the ways that we can align with the highest to experience greater joy, freedom, and stability.

The training is also super useful for doulas and other pregnancy support people, to have more tools to help pregnant women out of pain and into their empowered, authentic self.  And delving in if you are pregnant will set you up with a great yoga practice throughout your pregnancy.

It’s a super fun weekend and each time we do it, we become a little wiser about our opportunities to participate fully in the dance of our own creation.

Once you’ve taken the training, you can go through an approval process and if accepted, start your own Ma Yoga class in your neighborhood.  You’ll receive administrative and marketing support, a location on our website, and cheerleading and advice when you need it!

What if I don’t find a job at a yoga studio teaching prenatal yoga?

Ma Yoga was set up to support yoga teachers who want to start their own Prenatal Yoga and Mom Yoga+Baby classes, but might not be able to afford the time and money to create the website and do all the marketing.  If you have taken a Ma Yoga prenatal training, email jessica@mayoga.com and you can start receiving guidance, help finding your location and if you choose, online marketing and booking for your class.

Since classes are limited within each neighborhood, we don’t have to feel competetive with each other – when someone’s class grows, the whole Ma Yoga community benefits.  Become the first in your neighborhood to start a Ma Yoga class.
