I absolutely love Ma Yoga! I’ve been taking the prenatal classes since my second trimester and it has made my pregnancy a dream. I really enjoy getting to connect with other mom’s who are going through similar experiences at the beginning of each class and my body has never felt better.

When I first started I had terrible sciatica pain and could barely bend at all, but Ashley was so incredibly helpful with modifications and stretches that released my hamstrings, and before I knew it the pain was completely gone and my body still feels amazing, even now at 38 weeks! I truly look forward to Mondays at 8am with Ashley. Her classes are so healing and truly set the tone for the entire week.

I also take Friday class with Kathy and I love her as well. I am so grateful to have found these classes and I know they are a big reason why I’ve felt so strong and confident throughout this pregnancy. I highly recommend!! It’s a 5/5 experience for sure.

I met Ash earlier this week and she was teaching from Greece!!! The audio was perfect, no issues whatsoever, even though she was outdoors!

I really loved Kathy’s affirmations around power and continuous encouragement of the mamas and their strength. It was great to practice strengthening muscles during the 1 minute time to prepare for contractions and labor.

I really enjoyed doing cat/cow throughout the practice in between shapes and poses before going back into downward dog. The whole practice felt really good in my body.

The mantra at the end was beautiful as well: “All that matters is that my baby is healthy and that I am healthy”. Great class!

When I became pregnant a second time, as a working mom with a 1 year old at home, I knew there would be no chance of making it to 5:30 yoga practice so I joined the Ma Yoga Living community so I could practice at home after my son went to bed.

Just finished the rescue stretches and I can tell there’s a difference! Oh, thanks so much :o)

My back was in pretty bad shape – Achy, sharp pains…just overall UGH.

The rescue poses felt so relaxing I almost fell asleep. After just doing Module 3, I feel looser and able to move without as much pain. I feel encouraged that with continued practice I can nip this back pain in the butt!

This was my second Prenatal TT with Jessica. Jessica shares her knowledge with such grace that after the first one, I was equipped to begin teaching the week following my first workshop.

Focused on what they could do

Before your teacher training, I always focused on telling students what not to do.  On Tuesday night, I had 2 pregnant women in class! It was fantastic. I felt like the few minutes before class was very liberating for them, because we focused on how we could modify poses and what they could do.

Jessica’s competent knowledge in alignment put my linear brain at rest, while being encouraged and supported in diving into the more feelings-based, intuitive and connected part of myself.

Favourite element of the program

If I had to pick my favourite element of the whole Ma Yoga Certification program, I think Mayurveda would be it!

I knew NOTHING about Ayurveda before this series of online conference video calls. I loved that the structure (weekly video calls) allowed the knowledge to really sink in and for more research afterwards to be done. I loved the sense of community created.

I loved being given the time to allow new things to be tried and for new routines to be created. MAyurveda also has helped me to improve my family life – who knew that would happen!

I am so grateful for the wealth of information and the community that is provided as part of this journey.

I was anxious in this new role as a birth doula, and this course reminded me that there is a community of others who have walked this path before me who want nothing more than for me to succeed.

It was so different from the doula training I had done through DONA International, just to see it all through the yoga lens and the fact that you’re both doulas as well was really nice.

Wow. I learned so much through this course! There were so many things I hadn’t even thought of!  I feel empowered to share more info with friends and students.

To be honest, a lot of what I learned also scared me a bit about non-surgical births with all that could go wrong and all that is unexpected, but now I also have more tools for the best outcome with a surgical birth too, with delayed cord cutting, swabbing, etc!

Thank you, Melanie and Rachelle and fellow yogis for such a fabulous, eye-opening course!

I’ve now listened about twice, and will definitely revisit resources for myself and others in the future!

Listening a 2nd time has really helped

I’ve loved the Yoga of Birth classes! I listened to most the first time around too, and so listening a 2nd time has really helped everything sink in.

I wish I could have attended live, but I still feel I am getting so much just listening to the classes.

I especially love how vulnerable everyone is with sharing during class and in the circle. Helps me feel less alone with my worries!

I’ve also found the homework to be really helpful too, and know the resources will continue to be so valuable.

It’s wonderful that you also offer retakes up to 3 years, as it’s already been so helpful to revisit Yoga of Birth!

Thank you Melanie and Rachelle for being such supportive and wise leaders on this Yoga of Birth journey.  I really enjoyed the application of yoga as a lens through which to approach birth. Layering yoga philosophy, meditation, pranayama, and asana on top of birth has been lovely to learn, since this wasn’t such a direct focus of my previous trainings.

I will take away the importance of integrating the 5 Sacred Steps into my own experience as a birthing person and for my future students so that I can more present and balanced in each moment as they come.

I started out the training not being sure if I really wanted to become a prenatal teacher and if I really wanted to go into this very special connection with moms-to-be/ and new moms.

Gave me the language to understand my birth

The Yoga of Birth gave me language to understand my birth experience.

Prior to that course, if I had been asked if my birth experience was traumatic, I would have said ‘no’ because there wasn’t a code red or emergency c-section, or anything like that.

Feeling like I didn’t belong in that category left me, for years, with only the feelings of guilt – and no thought that I deserved or should be seeking comfort or healing for myself.

Now I feel healed in a way I didn’t even know I needed!
