It’s getting chilly, I’ve been traveling, and we are moving.
All of this adds up to feeling unsettled, scattered, and slightly nervous. If this goes unchecked, it can lead to anxiety, overwhelm, and sleeplessness.
So here’s how I am keeping it in check, just in the off chance you can relate…
According to Ayurveda (“the Science of Life”), the nervous system is best described by the element “Wind”. Wind moves fast, it cools us off, and it dries things out.
So, to find balance in the fall when my Vata (“Wind”) is aggravated from the chill and/or a-rhythmic living, I simply try to find a slower rhythm and eat warm, moist food.
This is when I say good-bye to my beloved green smoothies and move to Stewed Cinnamon Apples & Oats.
Here’s the recipe:
Stewed Cinnamon Apples & Oats
Cut an apple into bite-size chunks and add to 1 cup water in saucepan. Bring to boil.
Once it’s boiling, add any amount of rolled oats, anywhere from a sprinkle on up to 1/2 cup, depending how hungry you are.
Sprinkle lots of warming cinnamon, & simmer on low for 5 minutes. Add maple syrup to taste and optional walnuts. Enjoy!
It’s more than just delicious. The apples have wonderful nutrients to keep us healthy throughout the winter, the cinnamon fights inflammation and colds, and the whole sweet combo is calming for the nervous system. Enjoy!
